Frequently asked questions

Fast Car Offer connects you with independent, licensed dealers ("Buyers") who may make you an offer on your car. CarsGuide does not buy vehicles or make offers, we just refer you to the Buyer.

Any offer comes from one of our third-party Buyer partners, never from CarsGuide. We match your car with Buyers based on factors like your location, vehicle type and who's available. In some cases, you might hear from more than one Buyer.

Being matched to a Buyer isn't an endorsement or a guarantee; it just means a Buyer's in a good position to make you an offer.

No. "Fast" refers to how quickly we can get your details in front of Buyers, not a guaranteed offer or final price.

A Buyer may:

  • decide not to contact you; or
  • provide an indicative offer only, usually subject to inspection.

Buyers accept many common vehicle types, including sedans, SUVs, utes and vans.

A vehicle may not be eligible if it:

  • is more than 15 years old;
  • has over 180,000 km on the odometer;
  • is in poor condition;
  • has a history of major accidents; or
  • has been reported stolen or written off.

Eligibility is determined by the Buyer, not CarsGuide.

Yes. We've got Buyer partners across every state and territory, so wherever you are, there's a good chance we can find someone. It depends on Buyer coverage and availability in your area.

Timeframes vary depending on your vehicle, location and inspection availability.

Sales may be completed within 24 hours, but this is not guaranteed and depends on:

  • inspection timing;
  • agreement on price; and
  • completion of required paperwork.

Yes. Indicative offers are based on the information you provide. A Buyer may revise or withdraw an offer if the inspection identifies differences in condition, history or specifications.

Yes. Any negotiation is directly between you and the Buyer. CarsGuide does not negotiate on your behalf and does not influence pricing.

No. You are under no obligation to accept any offer you receive.

That shouldn’t be a problem. If you go ahead, the Buyer may ask for a payout letter from your lender and can arrange to pay out your loan directly. Any money left over comes to you, depending on the Buyer's process.

Yes. Licensed automotive traders can generally purchase vehicles without a roadworthy certificate, subject to their own requirements.

If you proceed with a sale, the Buyer will usually require:

  • proof of ownership (e.g. registration renewal notice);
  • service history and repair receipts (if available);
  • all sets of keys; and
  • your driver’s licence.

Exact requirements are set by the Buyer.

Payment timing is agreed between you and the Buyer.

Once a price is agreed and required documents are provided, funds are often transferred within around 24 hours. Timing may vary depending on the Buyer and payment method.

Yes. If you sell to a Buyer we referred you to, CarsGuide may earn a commission from them. This does not affect your ability to negotiate or decide whether to sell.

No. Connecting you with a Buyer isn't an endorsement. It doesn't mean they're providing the top valuation available.

Selling privately can involve advertising costs, time‑wasters, scams, inspections and paperwork.

Fast Car Offer is designed to provide a faster and more convenient alternative, by connecting you with licensed dealers who can handle inspections and paperwork if you choose to proceed.

Every valuation, vehicle check or sale happens directly between you and the Buyer. CarsGuide isn't a party to any contract of sale and isn't responsible for how a Buyer acts.
