Which would you rather: a packet of McDonald's sauce or a Golf GTI?

Now it mightn't be the latest fandingled model, with all of the optional extras, but it is in manual spec. So which one will it be?

As is the 'art of the swap' in North America, chances are you can trade literally anything for something better. Ever heard of the One red paperclip story? However, dropping a packet of McNugget sauce for a functional Mk. IV Golf GTi is a bit of a stretch by any margin.

Not until you realise that the sauce in question is the cult hit Mulan Szechuan dipping sauce - an ill-tasting syrup that was ironically pedestaled by Dan Harmon's Rick and Morty animated series. Except that a minority of the Rick and Morty collective didn't get the joke. At all.

Since then, McDonald's Szechuan sauce has pretty much since become a currency between the Adult Swim diehards, enabling Michiganian, Rachel Marie, to take advantage and snatch up what is probably the world's best trade: a packet of Szechuan sauce for a Golf GTI. Genius!

Rachel posted the packet of sauce on the Pin Nation sell/swap Facebook page after purchasing it from a limited-edition run at her local Maccas. After a couple of inquiries, a fan (who doesn't want to be named) offered his Golf GTI for tender.

As said before, it mightn't be the V6 powered R32, or a next-gen Mk.V Golf GTI - the car that brought back the GTI spirit - but it's still a mind boggling trade when you think about it. It's a car, a working car! For SAUCE! What makes this more insane is the fact that it's the last of the breed. That '04 plate means an extra 22kW (30hp) over the standard GTI's 110kW. And it's a manual too!

I'd be pretty stoked with that swap too - $10 for a Golf GTI, plus 24 bonus nuggets. (image credit: Facebook) I'd be pretty stoked with that swap too - $10 for a Golf GTI, plus 24 bonus nuggets. (image credit: Facebook)

While Rachel seemed to get a pretty good deal, we're not exactly sure what the previous owner is doing with his 'new' packet sauce. Maybe it's been eaten, or possibly being saved as an investment. Who knows.

Well, here's hoping that the series takes a turn and starts to obsess about blown clutches. I wonder what I could trade for mine.

Who do you think got the better deal in the end? Would you trade your car for a packet of sauce? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
