Yup it’s back again – that ridiculously powerful first-gen Golf that has no interest in the school run. Not that the kids would want to go.
Made in Germany – c’mon, where else? - by Boba Motoring, this little 1000hp (740kW) Golf has been screaming over the internet for a while, but now it’s hit the drag strip. Nice.
Powered by a two-litre four-cylinder Volkswagen unit, albeit with a giant dustbin sized turbo, this tiny shoebox hit the half mile in 17.853 seconds @ 308km/h.
No thanks. Even with the car’s 4Motion system and DSG gearbox taking care of the power delivery, we hardly doubt that the run was anything other than bloody terrifying – just look at the way it squirms!
Either way, the car has supposedly made a new record for the fastest four-cylinder on a half-mile in Germany. Not bad for a people’s car.
But it gets better - the Golf wasn’t even putting out the full 1000hp (740kW) on the first run, but rather a middling 940hp (700kW) in order to “get to know the track”.
While a full 1000hp run was planned, that idea came to a halt thanks to a brief shower, and then, right before they were about to go, a huge 600m oil spill from a previous contestant. C’mon man...
Which sounds annoying, but hey, they’re German right? I doubt they’re going to give up that easily.
