Kustom Kreatures: Monsters, flames and Ryan Ford

By Richard BerryRichard Berry

Monsters, pinstripes and flames.

Art is a massive part of kustom kulture and in this episode we catch up with illustrator Ryan Ford, who’s one of the scene’s killer paint brush wavers.

In the US during the 1950s Von Dutch was laying perfect and intricate pinstripes, in the ’60s Ed Roth re-imagined the hot rod and custom car scene with his depictions of insane machines and creatures such as Rat Fink and spawn a new generation led by the likes Coop and Keith Wiesener.

Australia has a healthy kustom art scene and Ryan Ford is one of the standouts with his pinstriping, wild illustrations and his typography for Chopped and the Boogaloo hot rod runs. Hell, Ryan even designed the logo for Kustom Keatures.
