Is Faraday Future smoking tyres or something else?

By Tom WhiteTom White

Faraday Future is an enigma, consistently generating contradictory stories about its financial status, and even though the brand has barely produced a working prototype, it has already signed up for one of the toughest motorsport events in the world.

This month's 'we swear - everything is totally fine' special issue includes spending $160 million restarting work on their Nevada factory after not paying contractors and an announcement on the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb website that they will compete this year with an FF91 (eff-eff nine-one).

Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, for those who somehow don't know is the ultimate hill climb event, it's 19.9 kilometers long and climbs 1.4 kilometers. It's made hillclimb legends out of vehicles like the Audi Sport Quattro, Peugeot 208 and, weirdly, the Suzuki Escudo.

Of course there's always this (a treat if you haven't seen it.)

Faraday will be bringing the FF91, never before seen in a motorsport (or indeed, driveable) setting to compete for the first time in the Exhibition Class against a Tesla Model S P100D.

Will they make it to the event? Who knows? We hope they do though just to see whether they can actually produce something able to match the outlandish performance claims they've made thus far.

If you want to have a crack at decyphering what Faraday Future is all about in the meantime, you can check out their odd dystopian website which begs more questions than it answers.

What do you think about Faraday Future, all smoke and none of it tyre-related? Tell us what you think.
