A twin-turbo V12 open-wheeler? This is what F1 cars should be

Remember that Toyota quad-turbo V12? Now it’s in a custom one-seater.

A couple of months ago we brought you a story about some guy’s uncle who welded two Toyota 1JZ-GTE straight-six engines together to create a 5-litre, quad-turbo V12.

While two of the turbos have been dropped, this is still no ordinary engine that deserves to be placed in a special car.

Located in America, the “evil genius” behind this creation has even built his own car (if you can call it that) for the engine, which is a single-seater racer. Why? Because why not.

This ‘open-wheeler’ is nothing short of stunning and the styling seems to be inspired by either Formula 5000 cars or late ‘60s F1 racers like Ferrari’s 312.

The intertwining manifold and exhaust pipes are simply gorgeous while the exposed engine is just car porn.

This project has been going on for a while and in the most recent update, Competition Engines and Cylinder Head Service together have tweaked the V12, machining and installing the pistons while also fixing a few small problems such as leaks.

The car has now been taken to performance part specialists, Nth Moto to have a wire harness created to connect the computer to the engine.

Following this, it’s onto the ignition which will see the V12 fired up for the first time, then we’ll have an idea if the engine can hit the suggested 600kW mark.
