Time moves fast in the world of cars, but there's one thing you want to slow down

Time can feel like it’s travelling at warp speed when it comes to new cars sometimes, with new technology appearing all the time, and cutting-edge features that were only yesterday the domain of the world’s most exclusive, and expensive, vehicles popping up in even the most accessible of city cars of today.

Take the Pajero Sport for example, which launched in Australia at the very end of last year, ushering in a new era for off-road capable SUVs. Even a handful of years ago, the kind of technology on offer here - from the 8.0-inch touchscreen with true smartphone mirroring, the raft of high-tech MiTEC safety equipment including autonomous braking, and its Super Select system that allows you to dial through a range of preset off-road drive settings, meaning you’re always perfectly setup for whatever surface you’re driving over - would have seemed more at home in a sci-fi movie than in a mainstream SUV, and yet now the inclusion of this brand new technology barely even causes a raised eyebrow.

The idea that a car as capable as the Pajero Sport - ready to go absolutely anywhere thanks to its genuine 4WD equipment, three-tonne-plus towing capacity and its space for passengers and gear - could also be this sleek, stylish and comfortable in the city seemed impossible even a handful of years ago. Back then, if you wanted to visit Australia’s most beautiful campsites and top-secret fishing spots, you had to compromise on a stripped-back, box-shaped 4WD that was unbearably uncomfortable to live with. These days, though, you can do it all, and more, in true comfort with a vehicle like the Pajero Sport

So, yes time flies in the world of cars. And that’s a good thing. But there’s one critical part of the ownership experience that you want to slow down as much as you possibly can. And that is, of course, your warranty coverage.

Japanese vehicles have a long-held reputation for manufacturing excellence and incredible reliability, but warranties still do vary hugely across Australia, with different car companies offering three years, five years, or seven years, and just about everything in-between.

But only one brand offers an unprecedented 10 years of coverage - the longest warranty period ever offered in our market. That would be Mitsubishi, with the Japanese brand’s just-launched Diamond Advantage coverage running a full decade, or 200,000kms, from the date of registration (and when you consider the average Aussie drives around 13,000km per year, that really is more than enough to cover every adventure you’ll take with your Pajero Sport, ensuring your warranty is every bit as dependable as your vehicle).

In real terms, it means a car you buy this year, in 2020, will still be covered by the manufacturer warranty in 2030. At which point you can buy another car if you want (which, given the speed of technology, will probably fly you to your destination, rather than drive…), and get another decade of coverage. It’s unheard of, and it’s mighty impressive.

While it’s impossible to know what the world, and especially the world of cars, might look like 10 years from now, you will know you’re covered. And that’s something worth slowing down for.
