Holden Torana

Holden Torana

The Holden Torana ran through three generations starting with the diminutive four-cylinder two- and four-door HB in 1967, then four- and six-cylinder sedan and coupe variants in the second-gen, followed by four, six and V8 models in its final iteration running until 1979.

Sporting models were a consistent feature - the Brabham Torana early on, then fire-breathing GTR XU-1 models, followed by the monstrous SL/R 5000 L34 and A9X V8s.

The line-up currently starts at POA for the Torana SL and ranges through to POA for the range-topping Torana SL.

Holden Torana Q&As

Check out real-world situations relating to the Holden Torana here, particularly what our experts have to say about them.

  • Finding insurance for 1974 Torana

Try Lumley Special Vehicles or Vigil, they're two other companies that insure classic and modified cars. I can't comment on your driving record, that's for them to decide of the basis of risk.

  • Heirloom Vehicle

ONLY if it has sentimental value. The Torana is not a highly prized collector car, and would be worth only $1000 or so at most.

  • Selling torana

IT'S hard to put a price on it because it's not a model that's highly sought after by collectors. The value is in its originality and condition. I'd think $4000-$5000 would be tops. You could consider auctioning it at a classic car auction house, advertise it in a specialist magazine or approach a Holden car club where you would meet people with a passion for Holdens. My choice would be to advertise it in a specialist magazine.

  • An airy solution

WE PUT your question to Mark Lynch of Carcool Airconditioning and his response was that it probably wasn't worth fixing the aircon. He says any repair becomes a restoration with a system fitted to a car nearly 30 years old. If the compressor is black, it is an original Delco and would need major work to be suitable for new ozone-friendly gases. Run the car on petrol occasionally, otherwise seals and other bits in the fuel system dry out and harden, which can lead to other problems.
