Would you buy an all-electric Toyota RAV4? New Prologue X teaser hints at brand's EV future

The Toyota Prologue X promises to reveal more about the brand's electric plans.

Toyota has unveiled a teaser image of its new Prologue X, with the countdown now underway to the model's official unveiling on March 17 in Europe.

Little is know about the model for now, though Toyota in Europe has included a pointed hint about it being 'A small' preview of what's next, suggesting a small model will be the first to received electric treatment.

But while the Prologue X could be a small vehicle - possibly an electric version of the bite-sized city car, the Aygo - it will also pave the way for a series of production electric SUVs, which will start with a new SUV that's similar in stature to the world-beating RAV4, and that will be the first model built on the brand's TNGA-e platform.

The vehicle - which will also spawn a Lexus twin - will be built in Toyota's new electric factory, dubbed ZEV, or Zero Emissions Vehicles, and the brand internationally has promised the EV SUV will go "global".

The brand is also touting "new battery technology" and a "new type of battery", but it's unlikely to mean solid-state battery technology, which the brand predicts will be ready of a mainstream launch around 2025.

"Toyota will shortly take the next step in the rollout of its forthcoming battery-electric portfolio by first previewing an all-new mid-sized SUV in the coming months," the brans says.

"The versatility and flexibility of e-TNGA technology allows us to design and create vehicles that are not just battery-electric, but also exciting to drive and beautiful to look at."
