Volkswagen Amarok V6 scores 3.5 tonne tow rating

The tow uprating applies to all 2018 V6 Amaroks.

The Amarok V6 now officially outmuscles Toyota’s top-selling HiLux in the the towing stakes, lifting its braked capacity from 3.0 tonne to 3.5 tonne. The HiLux can cop 3.2 tonnes.

The tow uprating applies to all 2018 V6 Amaroks, which are available now for customer order.

The Amarok V6's turbo-diesel 165kW/550Nm engine remains unchanged as VW’s tech staff achieved the improvement through engineering work, including an update to the Amarok's rear step set-up.

The 2018 variant gets a new 3.5 tonne-rated genuine towbar.

"We know that Amarok buyers use their vehicle for work and play,” Australian Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles team, marketing manager, Nick Reid, said. “The ability to tow a caravan or a boat is at the very heart of the Amarok, and we're glad that we're able to offer this enhancement to our customers, and their weekends.”

In September, more than 74 per cent of all Amaroks sold were V6 models.

The 2018 Amarok V6 line-up and recommended retail pricing is:

Volkswagen Amarok TDI550 Sportline Dual Cab - $55,490
Volkswagen Amarok TDI550 Highline Dual Cab - $59,990
Volkswagen Amarok TDI550 Ultimate Dual Cab - $67,990
