Toyota has finally confirmed it’s spinning out Century as its own separate brand to sit above its namesake brand and Lexus as a pinnacle of luxury.

It’s pushing the brand to be a Japanese ultra-luxury rival to the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

The Japanese carmaker has also confirmed it’s going global with the Century marque. At this stage the company hasn’t confirmed which markets it’ll enter into, so it’s unclear whether Australia is in the plans.

Like every Century model to date, the vehicles will be hand-built. Each example will also be bespoke and to the customer’s desires.

We’ll have to wait and see for more information on this front as there are currently only two Century models – the sedan and SUV.

However, at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Century has unveiled a new concept showing its intention moving forward to be an ultra-luxury rival to Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Dubbed the Century Coupe concept, it’s essentially a high-riding coupe that’s designed to be the ultimate vehicle to be chauffeured around in.

Not many details about this concept have been announced, however, the Japanese carmaker has said 60 layers of paint have been applied to the exterior in order to achieve the luscious red finish.

Inside, the concept emphasises how this is a vehicle you should be driven around in. There’s of course a driver’s seat, but the main attraction is the dramatic passenger seat which takes up the majority of the cabin.

Beyond the Century Coupe concept, Century is also showing an updated version of the Century GRMN sedan at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. It features a new grille and Nishijin carbon fibre, among other features.

Additionally, the company is showing off the Century SUV with a black matte paint exterior finish and orange interior. It’s intended to show the bespoke options that can be created.

Toyota Motor Group as a whole has a massive footprint at the 2025 Tokyo Motor Show. Lexus alone is showing off five concept vehicles.
