Mercedes-AMG has capped off the new SL series with its halo hybrid drop-top, the SL63 S E Performance.

With Australian details to come later closer to its likely local confirmation, pricing isn’t yet known, but international details for the SL63 S confirm it’s the most powerful to wear the SL letters ever.

A 4.0-litre V8 assisted by two turbochargers and a specific AMG Electric Drive Unit (a 150kW electric motor) puts out a total 600kW and 1420Nm, allowing for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 317km/h.

Without Australian confirmation, we don’t know how much it’ll cost, but the non-hybrid SL63 4Matic+ is available in Australia from $373,370 before on-roads.

The ‘2+2-seater’ comes with a series of features expected for a halo AMG model like hybrid-specific AMG styling including a set of 20-inch multi-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels and E Performance badging.

An active aero element hidden in the underbody at the SL’s front can also create a downforce-inducing Venturi effect, extending down at 80km/h and working with the extendable rear spoiler.

AMG’s active ride control suspension, active rear-axle steering and ceramic brakes with six-piston fixed callipers at the front and onw-piston floating callipers at the rear all add to the SL63 S E Performance’s credentials.
