This model list includes the Fortuner SUV, which will be axed by the Japanese juggernaut in Australia this year.

Toyota has also recently started introducing more electric models, including the bZ4X SUV, with an EV HiLux ute also on the way.

Luxury sub-brand Lexus would add a further 11 models to this list if it was included.

The Amarok ute and T-Roc compact SUV are the two best-sellers for the brand, with the Golf hatch also among its most popular models.

VW has seven van variants on sale, the most of any brand in Australia.

Popular models such as the Hyundai i30 hatchback and CarsGuide’s 2026 overall Car of the Year, the Santa Fe large SUV are mixed with the brand’s growing EV range.

Hyundai will continue to introduce new cars in 2026, including the freshly launched Elexio, which is the brand’s first China-built model on sale in Australia.

In addition to these electric units, Kia also sells the cheapest new car in Australia in the Picanto hatch, starting from just $20K.

Kia recently added the Tasman ute to the range as it diversified its offerings even further in 2025.

The Kia Niro small SUV will be axed from the line-up in 2026, with the updated model not coming to Australia.

Honourable mentions

Mazda just missed out on the top five with 13 models on sale in Australia, with its range mostly made up of petrol offerings. The brand will bring across two new built-in-China electric models in 2026, which are the 6e sedan and the CX-6e SUV.

BYD and GWM were the biggest representatives for Chinese manufacturers, combining for 18 models on sale between them. That number will rise in the coming months, pushing the first of the new wave of Chinese brands into the top five.
