Hot on the heels of official Toyota HiLux unveiling, the Japanese giant has now revealed the updated Fortuner, with the rugged SUV getting the same power and tech upgrades as the workhorse ute.
Like in the HiLux, the biggest change is under the bonnet, where the Fortuner's 2.8-litre diesel engine now produces 150kW and 500Nm. Even more impressive, despite the extra power, fuel use has been reduced by "more than 17 per cent". There's also been a 300kg increase in maximum braked towing capacity, now rated at 3100kg.
Inside, expect the same 8.0-inch touchscreen as the new HiLux, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, while a new look for each grade (GX, GXL and Crusade), including a unique surround for the grille, is standard. Elsewhere, there's new bumper, foglamp bezels and slimmer LED headlamps.
"Customers will appreciate the extra performance from the high-torque engine, coupled with impressive fuel economy, smoothness and quietness - whether they're on the school run or heading into the great outdoors," says Toyota Australia Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley.
