Subaru Australia has announced a special edition of its popular Outback lifted wagon.

Based on the top-spec turbo-petrol Touring XT, the Sport Touring XT incorporates some of the Sport’s unique styling features (hence the extended name) for an extra $500, at $57,490 before on-road costs.

It is available in an exclusive Geyser Blue paint colour coupled with the green exterior trim and black rear badges, dark metallic 18-inch alloy wheels, the black water repellent upholstery and black rear roof spoiler and trim garnish.

Other feature include an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented multimedia touchscreen, power sunroof, navigation, Subaru’s Eyesight driver assistance suite including adaptive cruise control and lane-trace assist, nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and LED headlights.

Like other XT variants, the Sport Touring XT features a 2.4-litre turbo-petrol ‘Boxer’ flat-four generating 183kW and 350Nm. It uses a CVT automatic to transmit grunt to all-four wheels via a symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD) system

Non-XT Outbacks retain the AWD and CVT but use a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre flat-four petrol producing 138kW and 245Nm.

“This special edition is all about celebrating the adventurous spirit that defines the Subaru Outback. It offers a fresh, dynamic look while continuing to deliver the reliability and performance that Subaru drivers have come to expect,” said Subaru Australia GM Scott Lawrence.

“We’re thrilled to offer this distinctive model for a limited time and provide our customers with a unique option for their journeys, near or far,” he added.

Subaru has shifted 6643 Outbacks so far this year, down on last year’s achievements by 5.4 per cent. It is still fairly popular, even if it is outsold by SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage and Subaru's own Forester.

The lifted wagon is just about due a facelift, with the 2025 year model already on sale in the United States. An off-road Wilderness version is expected to land here eventually.

Subaru Australia has called the trim a limited edition but without giving an end-of-sale date for the variant. The Outback Sport Touring XT is available for pre-order now.
