Nissan says it’s embracing its dark side with the new Navara Black Edition - a limited-edition run of 400 vehicles with an even tougher look.
Based on the Navara ST Dual Cab four-wheel drive, the Black Edition gains 17-inch gloss black wheels that are complete with Yokohama Geolander all-terrain tyres.
A single tube black sports bar replaces the chrome bar on the standard ST, as well as black door handles, mirror caps, a tub liner, a matte black front grille and “black edition” decals along the vehicle’s sides.
There’s also a new – you guessed it – black Nissan genuine soft tonneau cover as standard. For an extra $500, you can opt for the Australian-made HSP electric roll top cover which offers central tailgate locking.
The Black Edition will be offered in two standard colours, Solid White and Black Star. There’s also an option of two premium paint colours, Twilight Grey and Brilliant Silver, though they’ll cost you extra as well, coming in at an additional $700.
The Navara’s powertrain remains unchanged, sporting the same 2.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that produces 140kW and 450Nm. Power is conducted through a seven-speed automatic transmission.
Standard to the Navara ST are features such as high and low gearing, an 8-inch digital touch screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, LED headlights and tail lights, as well as a digital speedometer.
All together the Navara ST Black Edition, including the HSP accessories, will cost $60,995 (before on-road costs), an additional $5500 to the standard dual cab ST’s $55,455 starting price.
Nissan says it’s a saving of $2200 on what would typically be valued at $9700 worth of extra equipment.
The Navara is Australia's sixth-best selling ute, with sales up 48.5 per cent on this time last year.
The Black Edition will arrive in Australia in early September.
