Mazda has detailed pricing for a limited edition variant of its cult-favourite MX-5 model.

Set to go on sale from January next year, just 50 units of the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition have been allocated for the Australian market.

Based on the G20 Roadster GT variant, the 35th Anniversary Edition has been priced at $52,020, before on-road costs, $2300 more than the standard soft-top GT.

In exchange for the bump in price tag, the limited-edition spec gets a suite of unique design features such as triple-layer 'Takuminiri' Artisan Red paint, a beige soft-top and bespoke 17-inch alloys.

Inside there is tan Nappa leather upholstery along with beige carpet and floor mats. The headrests also get unique ‘35th Anniversary’ embroidery.

The limited edition variant is powered by the standard Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 135kW/205Nm.

It is, of course, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.

For extra fun, Mazda have also paired it with DSC-Track mode, a dynamic stability control software that lowers the intervention threshold to allow for more oversteer when cornering.

Typically the technology is only reserved for the higher-spec G20 Roadster GT RS variant or its hard-top equivalent.

If Artisan Red metallic paint isn't to your liking, customers can also opt for Soul Red Crystal or Machine Grey metallic premium paints, which are typically priced at $595.

Alternatively, there is the no-cost option of Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue Metallic, Aero Grey Metallic or Jet Black Mica.

More broadly, Mazda said it has mildly refreshed its MX-5 lineup by offering base-model G20 Roadster models with cloth and suede upholstery, along with soft-touch materials on the centre console and armrests.

Additionally, the G20 also will also have body-coloured door trims.
