Lynk & Co has detailed its upcoming flagship 900 three-row SUV with previously unheard-of driving range and an all-new battery type.
The 900 falls more than five meters long and will initially launch as a six-seater in China.
The new SUV is a plug-in hybrid and features a new 52.38kWh battery pack using a new chemistry from the world’s largest battery supplier CATL. The new battery blends lithium-iron phosphate chemistry with sodium, and is designed specifically for plug-in hybrids. Its sodium content is said to make it better for use in cold climates.
The big news is the amount of range it offers and how fast it can charge.
The 52.38kWh unit offers a massive 280km electric driving range (on the more lenient CLTC cycle), which is easily double what most plug-in hybrids sold in Australia offer.
It is said to charge from 20 to 80 per cent in just 17 minutes. Total range when using hybrid mode is said to exceed 1440km. The 900 debuts a modified PHEV-specific version of the same ‘Scalable Product Architecture’ platform, which underpins the Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3, dubbed SPA Evo.
In a similar layout to other PHEVs from China, the Lynk & Co 900 uses either a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission on the front axle and either one or two independent electric motors on the rear axle. Offered in three output grades, the 900 is available in three outputs, 530kW or 540kW for the 1.5-litre versions or 630kW for the 2.0-litre tri-motor version.
Inside the Lynk & Co 900 scores two enormous 30-inch screens (one for the dash, and another for rear passenger entertainment), as well as a 12.66-inch digital instrument cluster. It has lavish interior trims to suit its flagship positioning, and even features second-row seats which can rotate 180-degrees complete with a deployable table to sit between the second and third rows. No doubt to help handle its weight, the 900 also scores dual-chamber air suspension with adaptive damping. The fastest 630kW versions can sprint from 0-100km/h in four seconds.
Lynk & Co now falls under the control of Zeekr, and effectively become its line of sports luxury hybrid cars.
Zeekr Australia’s General Manager William Zhou told CarsGuide the door was very much open to a Lynk & Co coming in Australia, with the local division aiming for a 2026 launch for its new sub-brand.
Zhou explained the company was in the process of developing right-hand drive models specifically for markets like Australia and the UK, and more would be revealed in due course.
He said a Lynk & Co international expansion had become a priority for Zeekr thanks to a sharp rise in demand for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. “When it comes to daily use, plug-in hybrids should be another major choice” Zhou explained, “We’re confident with the current product from Lynk & Co with petrol and hybrid technology will do really well in Australia, so we’re pushing to have Lynk & Co, but under one brand, Zeekr.”
