It wasn’t your average business function when Chatswood Toyota opened its revamped dealership last Wednesday night.
An impressive list of attendees were on hand to see the dealership's managing director, Ian Mayer, open the $14 million headquarters. “Former presidents of Toyota and Toyota Motor board [flew] in from Japan,” spokesperson Mary-Lou Jarvis said.
Malcolm Turnbull, Bob Hawke and Gladys Berejiklian were also at the opening. According to Ms Jarvis, the new dealership is one of the largest in NSW that sells only Toyota vehicles. She said despite a volatile year for the Australian car industry, the dealership would be able to provide 120 local jobs.
“(This) has to be a good news story for the north shore economy,'' Mr Mayer said. Mr Mayer has been with the car manufacturer for more than three decades. He purchased Chatswood Toyota last year and has overseen the redevelopment. “Our investment in this business is considerable,” Mr Mayer said.
