GWM has announced a discount on one of its new models before it has even arrived.

The incoming GWM Haval H6 GT plug-in hybrid is on offer for $53,990, drive-away. That is a $2000 discount compared to RRP.

The deal is open to any buyer who orders a new H6 GT plug-in hybrid by March 31, 2025.

On top of the cash discount, GWM is throwing in a 7kW wallbox ($499) as part of the deal. Current GWM owners also benefit more, with a $3000 trade-in bonus for any vehicle from the brand and $1000 loyalty bonus if you already own a GWM product.

The deal makes GWM’s plug-in hybrid mid-size SUV more enticing than the equivalent offering from BYD, the Sealion 6 Premium AWD, which lists at $52,990, before on-road costs.

It also dramatically undercuts Australia’s prior favourite PHEV, the Mitsubishi Outlander, which starts at $57,290, before on-road costs, in base ES five-seat trim.

The H6 GT PHEV has strong outputs courtesy of a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine combined with electric motivation. Peak power and torque outputs are 321kW and 762Nm, enough for a claimed 0-100km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds.

Additionally, GWM’s generous 35.4kWh battery gives the H6 GT a genuinely impressive electric-only driving range of 180km (NEDC), nearly 100km more than rivals.

Combined fuel consumption is rated at just 1.0L/100km when the battery is charged. The Haval H6 GT PHEV should be capable of travelling 1000km with a full tank and charge.

The Haval H6 in more conventional wagon-bodied form is available in plugless hybrid guise, though it’s not expected to pick-up the plug-in variant.

Based on the ultra trim, the new H6 GT PHEV has 19-inch alloy wheels, a powered tailgate, synthetic leather and suede upholstery on power-adjust seats with heating and cooling, a panoramic sunroof, push-button start, keyless entry, a wireless smartphone charger, heated steering wheel, heated door mirrors and a head-up display.

A 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity (via a cable). An eight-speaker sound system produces the sounds.

The H6 GT PHEV also benefits from minor styling updates, including matte black exterior badging and different LED tail-lights with clear lenses.

Overall plug-in hybrid sales doubled in 2024 thanks to a combination of increased awareness and a host of new entrants. GWM is betting big on plug-ins this year, adding a version to its Cannon Alpha ute next.
