Prices have been revealed for the new petrol-only version of the Hyundai Santa Fe seven-seat SUV. Petrol-power is $2500 less across the range compared to the hybrid versions.
Prices start at $53,000 (before on-road costs) for the turbo-petrol 2WD version. The Santa Fe now edges its key rival, the Toyota Kluger, which starts at $54,420 (before on-road costs).
It opens an even bigger gap on the GWM Tank 500, which starts at $66,490 drive-away.
It remains just out of touch of the Kia Sorento, which starts at $50,680 (before on-road costs).
Interested buyers can expect to get their hands on one before the end of the year, with Hyundai confirming petrol variants are schedule to arrive in dealers across the country from next week.
Petrol variants use a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which sends 206kW/422Nm to either the front or all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
That represents a rise in outputs of 34kW/55Nm over its hybrid equivalent’s 172kW/367Nm. Hybrid versions use a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, electirc motor and small battery paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
More power comes with a trade-off, with fuel consumption on the petrol rising to 9.3L/100km compared to the hybrid’s 5.6L/100km.
As with the entry-level hybrid, the turbo-petrol has 20-inch alloy wheels, twin 12.3-inch screens (one for the driver’s display and the other for multimedia functions), cloth seats, front and rear LED lights, wireless charging and rear privacy glass.
Customers can opt for the XRT Adventure Pack option as well, which adds 17-inch off-road wheels with all-terrain tyres, mud flaps, an off-road suspension kit and an underbody skid plate, for an additional $6990.
For an extra $3000 buyers can step up to the AWD version, which adds on-demand four-wheel drive capability and three different driving modes – Mud, Sand and Snow. It is priced at $56,000, before on-road costs, down from $58,500 on the hybrid variant.
The AWD version also unlocks the more comprehensive XRT Peak option pack, which is priced at $9990.
It adds 17-inch off-road wheels and all-terrain tyres, mud flaps, off-road suspension, an underbody skid plate, integrated side steps, a roof rack and roof platform, a bonnet protector and style visors.
The Elite AWD is priced from $62,500, which is down from $65,000 on the hybrid.
As with the hybrid version, it adds more standard kit, including synthetic leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a secondary wireless charging port.
It also drops the standard six-speaker system for a more premium 12-speaker Bose sound system.
The petrol Calligraphy grade starts at $72,500, which is again $2500 more than the equivalent hybrid. It adds Nappa leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, a digital rear view mirror and power adjustments for the front passenger over the Elite.
