New VW California Beach 2020 confirmed: Kombi-style camper van locked in for Q3 launch!

The California Beach will be one of the most versatile vehicles money can buy when it goes on sale.

Volkswagen Australia has confirmed it will once again sell camper vans, with the Kombi-style California Beach locked in for a launch in the third quarter of this year.

Set to arrive alongside the facelifted Transporter it is based upon, the California Beach came to be due to customer demand, according to Volkswagen Australia.

Those keen to get behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo rival will be able to customise their example with a pre-production order.

That said, pricing and specification for the California Beach and wider Transporter line-up won’t be revealed until closer to their release date.

As reported, the facelift of the T6 Transporter is aptly named T6.1 and ushers in several changes to the range of commercial vans and people movers, including revised exterior styling and a new multimedia system, among others.

New advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive cruise control.

A new engine and transmission combination will also become available: a 110kW/340Nm turbo-diesel unit paired to a dual-clutch automatic and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

“For our customers, the Transporter is more than just a van; it’s an office, a troupe carrier and a workhorse. The T6.1 range is more than just a facelift. With the T6.1 update of our popular van and people-mover variants, our Transporter range gives customers even greater access to our latest tech, design and safety systems,” said Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia director Ryan Davies.

“Best of all, with the introduction of the T6.1 California Beach, we are finally answering fan and customer demand for a factory-backed, turn-key weekender – we're ecstatic to be bringing the Kombi Van back to Oz.”

For reference, the current Transporter line-up ranges in price from $37,490 to $60,190 plus on-road costs.
