On the same day Mitsubishi confirmed its new Renault-based ASX, the French brand’s Captur version of the light SUV is coming back to Australia.

A brief hiatus between the pre-facelift and new-look model was due to Renault running out of stock late last year. The 2025 Renault Captur is due in Australia in the second half of 2025.

Renault is yet to confirm pricing and specifications, but a Captur hybrid — known as the E-Tech in Renault speak — would surely prove popular.

In Europe, the Captur can be optioned with a 107kW petrol-electric hybrid that sips 4.6L/100km and emits 105 g/km of CO2 in the WLTP combined drive cycle.

As it stands, the only other hybrid in the light SUV class is the Toyota Yaris Cross, that is until the Captur-based ASX arrives. The best sellers include the ageing Mazda CX-3 and Kia Stonic along with the off-road focused Suzuki Jimny.

Previously available in three trims — Life, Zen and Intens — the Captur was only sold in Australia with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol (co-developed with Mercedes-Benz) paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

A new flagship variant known as the Esprit Alpine may join the range with big 19-inch alloys. Upgrades to all Capturs include an overhauled cockpit with larger 10.4–inch multimedia touchscreen running Google-powered Renault OpenR Link software.

Renault has also improved the driver assistance features, revised the Captur’s suspension and steering calibration along with improving response from the engine and gearbox.

“The MY25 Renault Captur is just one of a number of new and updated Renault models around the corner for Renault Australia and we will have more to share on those soon.”

Renault is expected to bring a host of new and exciting models to Australia including the all-electric 5 hatchback and its high-riding 4 small SUV sibling.

Additionally, Renault importer Ateco is looking to bring in rebadged Dacia models including the Duster Mazda CX-30 rival and its Bigster cousin that targets the Toyota RAV4. More concrete plans for both the EVs and Dacias will be confirmed soon.
