New Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan 2020 pricing and specs detailed: Hot A250 joins four-door range

Fancy your A-Class sedan with a little more go? The A250 is here to tickle your fancy.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has launched two new hot variants of its first-generation A-Class small sedan, the front- and all-wheel drive A250, with first deliveries due from later this month.

The FWD A250 is priced from $53,000 plus on-road costs, while its AWD counterparts commands a $6200 premium, of which buyers are also compensated with a longer list of standard equipment.

Both A250s are powered by a 165kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, which is exclusively mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The FWD version comes with black 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome dual exhaust tailpipes.

Inside, a 10.25-inch touchscreen MBUX multimedia system, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, DAB+ digital radio, a 225W sound system with nine speakers, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charge and keyless start feature.

Trainspotters will notice the A250's chrome dual exhaust tailpipes.

Advanced driver-assist systems extend autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep and steering assist, high-beam assist, traffic sign recognition and a reversing camera.

Stepping up to the AWD variant adds variable-ratio steering, lowered comfort suspension, perforated front brake discs, an AMG body kit, a ‘diamond’ grille insert, rear privacy glass, a panoramic sunroof and keyless entry.

It also bundles in comfort sports seats, Dinamica microfibre upholstery, red contrast stitching, a Nappa leather-trimmed flat-bottom steering wheel, stainless-steel sports pedals with rubber studs, and ambient lighting.

The A250 pair slots in between the entry-level A180 ($46,200) and A200 ($50,900), and flagship AMG A35 ($72,500) in the Audi A3-rivalling A-Class sedan line-up.

The A250 features a pair of 10.25-inch displays inside.
