The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 4Matic+ Coupe offers a unique look compared to the regular model.

Mercedes-AMG has revealed the Coupe version of its high-performance GLE 63 large SUV, which is expected to hit showrooms before year’s end.

The GLE 63 4Matic+ platform was first was revealed at the Los Angeles motor show last year, with the brand’s local wing confirming that it plans to exclusively import the higher-grade 63 S variant, and so it follows that the new Coupe will also be available in this specification.

Using a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, the vehicle delivers outputs of 450kW and 850Nm, and is matched with an electric motor that can temporarily boost power by 16kW/250Nm.

That is matched with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive, allowing the vehicle to sprint from zero to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The GLE 63 Coupe rides on adaptive air suspension which can be adjusted via three driver modes.

Also standard is active roll stabilisation to manage body roll, an electronically locking differential at the rear axle and speed-sensitive power steering.

Like the suspension, the all-wheel-drive system can be tailored using driver modes including Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Race, Trail and Sand.

To slow the German bruiser down, large AMG brakes are fitted, with six-piston calipers on 400mm discs at the front, and a single-piston floating caliper setup with 370mm discs at the rear.

Fuel consumption is rated at 11.5L/100km.

As to expect from a premium SUV, an array of high-quality materials are used in the interior, in this case nappa leather complements sporty AMG seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminium shift paddles and carbon-fibre trim pieces.

The significant technology suite is managed on a MBUX widescreen multimedia system that features various modes including Modern, Classic, Sporty, Discreet and Supersport.

Australian pricing and specifications have yet to be confirmed.
