New Mazda MX-5 2020 pricing and specs detailed: Popular sports car is now dearer

Keen on a new MX-5? Be prepared to dig a little deeper into your wallet.

Mazda Australia has increased the pricing of its current-generation MX-5 sports car.

All variants are now $500 more expensive, with a Mazda Australia spokesperson telling CarsGuide the roadster’s price rises came partly in response to exchange-rate pressures.

As such, the MX-5 now ranges in price from $35,890 to $49,900 plus on-road costs (see full pricing table below), with its specification unchanged.

A 97kW/152Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine still exclusively powers the unnamed entry-level variants, which are of the soft-top variety.

Conversely, a 135kW/205Nm 2.0-litre unit is used by all other versions.

Both engines come with the choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic, and drive is sent to the rear wheels only.

Two body styles are available: a soft-top and a hard-top, dubbed RF. Both can be had in flagship GT form, which is only matched to the 2.0-litre unit.
