New Genesis GV80 2020 uncovered: BMW X5 rival revealed

The first-ever SUV from a Korean luxury brand - the Genesis GV80 - has been revealed by way of a few shadowy images.

The striking new luxury SUV will go up against the likes of the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE when it arrives on sale in Australia in 2020, and it was designed in collaboration between Genesis' design teams in South Korea, the US and Germany.

The most eye-catching elements include the quad headlights, bold grille, horizontal signature lines that run the length of the car, and the seemingly very large alloy wheels on this particular model.

Inside there's a wide media screen on top of the dashboard, a two-prong steering wheel, wooden trim with elegant looking circular motifs, and quilted leather trim along with ambient lighting. There are long, slimline vents running the width of the dash, and a touchscreen controller for the ventilation and climate.

"Over the last four years, Genesis has established itself as a respected luxury brand with superior vehicle quality and a line-up of class-leading sedans with charismatic and discriminating style," said William Lee, executive vice president and Genesis global head. "With the launch of GV80, Genesis will elevate expectations for excellence within the luxury SUV market."

The Genesis GV80 2020 model will be offered with a choice of five- or seven-seat configurations, and will also be offered with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive, depending on the market.

Rumours suggest the GV80 will be offered with a choice of three engines - a 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol, a 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 petrol, and a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder. Expect hybrid models to follow.

Genesis Australia has confirmed the new GV80 model will be on sale in Australia "later in 2020". Stay tuned for more on the big luxury SUV soon.
