... at the opening day of the 2010 Australian International Motor Show (AIMS). The range-topping Superleggera or ‘super-light’ version of the Gallardo is 70kg lighter than the Gallardo LP 560-4, making it the lightest car in Lamborghini’s line-up.
Powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine, the Superleggera generates 419kW of power and 540Nm of torque. Lamborghini’s lightweight Gallardo accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds and has the capacity to reach 200km/h after just 10.2 seconds.
The vehicle’s permanent all-wheel-drive system helps it reach a top speed of 325km/h. Lamborghini Australia managing director Andrew Smith believes the company’s latest offering will be among the most popular vehicles at this year’s show.
“The new Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera brings together the very best Lamborghini has to offer both extreme power and precise functionality,” Mr Smith said.
“With an almost unrivalled 0-100km/h acceleration time and exclusivity at a premium, our latest Gallardo will no doubt draw large crowds when the motor show opens later this week.
“The show will be the first opportunity for the general public to see the vehicle. With only a limited number coming to Australia, it will be a rare experience.”
Lamborghini engineers went to great lengths to ensure weight was kept to a minimum, relying on a range of exotic materials to reduce the overall weight of the 570-4 Superleggera.
This included extensive use of carbon-fibre components for external bodywork and inside the cabin. The engineers switched to polycarbonate for the rear and side windows, even using titanium wheel nuts.
The Australian International Motor Show opens this Friday at 5pm at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour and runs until 6pm on Sunday, 24 October.
