The entry level Mazda 6 "Limited" model has been axed, while leather upholstery and parking sensors have become standard across all variants of the car. The new entry level Mazda6 is the Touring sedan manual at $31,450 which is $4140 more than the outgoing $27,310 Limited model. The $40,905 Luxury sedan has also been axed from the Mazda6 range.
Mazda Australia spokesman Steve Maciver says the axed models were the "slowest selling variants so we decided to focus our energies on the more popular models".
The Touring model designation replaces the Classic model costing $300 less, yet with the addition of front and rear parking sensors, leather seat trim and power adjustable front seats with driver's side memory function. The previous Touring wagon has been cut $3370 to $34,750, but with no loss of features. Touring models come with climate control airconditioning, Bluetooth, cruise control, trip computer, rain-sensing wipers, six airbags and DSC.
Mazda has added front and rear parking sensors, leather seat trim and power adjustable front seats with driver's side memory function to the Mazda6 Diesel wagon while the five-door Luxury Sports and Diesel Sports add the $2800 satnav option at no extra cost.
Mazda6 is the third best-selling medium car in Australia behind Toyota Camry and Ford Mondeo. Maciver says the new pricing, features and model reorganisation is not in response to any particular competitor.
"As with all our products, we are continually looking at the market and changing customer demands to make sure that Mazda offers competitive value to complement responsive handling and stylish design," he says.
"The upgrade is a result of this work by our product team."
