The new-generation Mazda3 sedan has arrived in showrooms hot on the heels of the April launch of the hatch, with the range kicking off at less than $25,000, before on-road costs.

Pricing mirrors the hatch line-up and starts at $24,990 for the entry grade G20 Pure with a six-speed manual gearbox.

A six-speed automatic transmission is offered on all grades and engines for $1000 more. Pricing tops out at $37,990 for the G25 Astina with an automatic.

As with the hatch, Mazda3 sedan buyers have a choice of two engines: the G20 which is a 114kW/200Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder and the more powerful 139kW/252Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder G25.

All cars are front-wheel drive and while you won't find a diesel in the line-up Mazda says a top-of-the-range Mazda3 will arrive soon boasting the new, super-efficient 'Skyactiv-X' compression ignition petrol engine.

The Mazda3 sedan's standard features match the hatch's with all cars coming with an 8.8-inch screen, reversing camera, sat nav, adaptive cruise control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital radio, Bluetooth and steering wheel mounted controls.

Stepping up to the G20 Evolve grade adds dual-zone climate control and paddle shifters, while the G25 Evolve goes further, swapping the cloth seats for leather, and adding a power adjustable driver's seat and proximity unlocking.

The standard safety equipment list is also extensive. All Mazda3 sedans come standard with AEB, blind spot monitoring and lane keeping assistance.
