Kia has added more accessible hybrid options to its SUV line-up for 2026.

Buyers will be able to choose from several new hybrids across the Kia Sorento range.

The Sorento S hybrid front-wheel drive variant starts from $56,380, around $15,000 cheaper than the GT-Line hybrid.

Sorento hybrids were previously only available in the top-of-the-range GT-Line, which now starts from $71,290 (before on-road costs).

Kia’s cheaper hybrid Sorento range comes after the brand hiked prices across its predominantly petrol and diesel fleet by amounts between $250 and $1,000 earlier this month.

Those hikes originally excluded electric and hybrid variants, but the unveiling of these new hybrid Sorentos highlights a $960 increase from last month on the range-topping Sorento GT-Line hybrid.

Kia’s Sorento hybrid entry level comes in cheaper than rivals such as the Toyota Kluger that starts from $62,410 and has sold 6598 examples up to September 2025.

It is also cheaper than Hyundai’s Santa Fe hybrid, which starts from $57,000.

Hybrid variants of the Sorento are available in higher grades of Sport and Sport+, in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive specs.

The hybrid Sorento is currently powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol hybrid set-up that produces 169kW and 350Nm, through a six-speed auto transmission.

The hybrid tech cuts fuel use to 5.4L per 100km for front-wheel drive variants and 5.7L/100km for AWD grades.

In addition to standard hybrid options, the Sorento also offers plug-in hybrid variants, which vary in price between models, but are all at least $10,000 more than the regular hybrid.

Kia’s hybrid beef-up is the latest response to the increasingly popular hybrid options among Aussie buyers.

Hybrids are the second-most popular SUV power set-up on the Australian market, with more than 12,000 sales up to September 2025, exceeding that of diesel and electric options.

Toyota exclusively sells hybrids, while most other manufacturers include hybrid options as part of its range, with Kia’s Sorento now getting on the act.

2026 model year Sorento will arrive in showrooms later this year.
