Hyundai has placed heavy discounts across its range of electric Kona compact SUVs.

The Kona electric is now available from $45,990 (drive-away), which is a discount of more than $13,000.

This level of discount is reflected on all EV Kona models, with now only a $6000 difference between its hybrid and electric variants.

The pricing changes bring the electric Kona closer to its rivals, such as BYD’s Atto 3, which ranges in starting price from $39,990 to $44,990, before on-road costs.

It also now comes in significantly cheaper than the Euro-sourced Renault Megane E-Tech, starting from $54,990, before on-road costs.

The Kona was one of the best-selling cars in Australia in 2025, and the best selling compact SUV across 2024 as well - but the vast majority of those sales were for its petrol and hybrid variants.

Electric variants of the Kona come with two motor choices.

The standard range has a single electric motor producing 99kW and 255Nm, while all other electric Kona variants produce 150kW and 255Nm.

The smaller 49kWh battery in the standard range has a driving range of 370km (WLTP), with the 65kWh battery in other variants offering up to 505km (WLTP).

It is not only Kona electric models which have received discounts, with the 2.0-litre petrol and hybrid variants also getting drive-away discounts of more than $550 and $1000, respectively.

The 1.6-litre turbo Kona pricing has remained the same.

The Inster compact electric SUV has also received a significant price drop, now available for drive-away from $35,990, which equates to a saving more than $7000 for the entry-level Standard Range version.

Hyundai has been slashing prices on some of its EV models over the past few months.

The brand dropped the price of its 2025 Ioniq 5 mid-size SUV by more than 15 per cent in an attempt to boost demand recently.

Hyundai will bring across another electric SUV this year, the Elexio, which will be similarly priced to what the higher end Kona variants are, at $59,990 drive-away.
