Kia is working on a new Seltos-sized seven-seat people mover that will sit below the popular Carnival in a move that could potentially change the compact SUV game.
The new model, which will be built in India for local and as-yet-unclear international markets is codenamed the KY, and has been spied testing on the subcontinent.
The Seltos-sized seven-seater is expected to be unveiled in full later this year, and will go on sale in India in early 2022. Where it ends up beyond that is yet to be confirmed.
The MPV shares it architecture with the Seltos - which is on the large side of the compact SUV class - and is expected to be powered by 1.5-litre turbo-diesel or a 2.0-litre petrol.
The KY is also expected to be offered in six- and seven-seat configurations, with access to the third row via electronic folding seats in the middle row.
Reports also point to the model featuring LED DRL, a sunroof and 16-inch alloy wheels as standard.
The model, though, is unlikely to make it to Australia - though Kia here is yet to confirm either way - but seven-seat models like this, including the Hyundai Stargazer and Mitsubishi Xpander, do big business in south-east Asian markets.
