Hyundai to open $70mil Aust head office in Sydney

Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) said its new office would be purpose-built at Macquarie Park, in Sydney's north-west, to open mid-2008.

HMCA said it considered Melbourne and Brisbane as the location for its new headquarters but decided to remain based in Sydney "due to its superior infrastructure", particularly at the Macquarie Business Park.

"This included the opening of the Lane Cove Tunnel next January, the Epping-Chatswood rail link's imminent completion with a new railway station immediately adjacent, and recent approval of a Parramatta rail link," the company said in a statement.

Among those at the announcement on the site today were NSW Deputy Premier John Watkins, South Korea's Ambassador to Australia Chang-Beom Cho, and HCMA chief executive officer Steve Yeo.

The investment marks the final maturity of HMCA's establishment in October 2003 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, now the world's sixth largest and fastest growing automotive manufacturer.
