Ford's performance party ready to launch: Focus ST, Fiesta ST will be here in June

Ford Focus ST and Fiesta ST are around the corner

Ford's Fiesta ST and Focus ST are finally ready for launch, with the brand's Toyota GR Yaris and VW Golf GTI rivals now expected to arrive in Australia in June.

Initially earmarked for an early 2020 arrival, that date has now been revised, with Ford's President and CEO, Kay Hart, telling CarsGuide that both would now arrive at a the same time, with a launch planned for "the middle of the year"

"It's an exciting time for us as we continue to grow the brand here. And some great new additions to out lineup. Things like ST, the great new Ford Performance vehicles coming through - the Fiesta ST and Focus ST," she says.

"Both (will arrive) in the middle of the year, and both at similar times."

We'll start with the new-gen Fiesta ST, with Ford's pint-sized powerhouse to  arrive wearing a $31,990 price sticker, and sporting a smaller but more powerful engine.

The now five-door Fiesta will make use of a turbocharged three-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine that will produce some 147kW and 290Nm (up from 134kW and 240Nm), with that power sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

There are Normal, Sport and Track drive modes, too, and Ford says that, in its angriest settings, the Fiesta ST will clip 100km/h in 6.7 seconds.

The Focus ST, on the other hand, will wear a $44,690 sticker, and can be had in manual or automatic guise. It makes use of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine also found in the Mustang, and produces a substantial 206kW and 420Nm.
