Mercedes-Benz has revealed pricing and specifications for the new-generation AMG GT63 4MATIC+ two-door.
Pricing will start at $366,500 (MRLP), though with even mild options that figure can easily edge closer to $400,000.
In saying that, the new model is significantly heavier than the last AMG GT sold in Australia – the 2021 AMG GT R – which was 1632kg to the new model’s 1925.5kg.
Dimensions-wise, the SL convertible-related new car is also much bigger, coming in at 4727mm long, 1354mm tall, and with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It is 12mm narrower than the previous model though, at 1984mm wide.
Mercedes says the new-generation’s enlarged size is mostly thanks to a fully-variable all-wheel drive platform which, for the first time ever, will come standard on new generation models.
Using an electronically controlled clutch-type centre differential, the GT 63 can range from traction-oriented all-wheel drive — which sends 50:50 power to the front and rear axles — to pure rear-wheel drive. It also features rear-axle steering.
With the increased size comes a bigger cabin that allows for a Porsche 911-style 2+2 seating configuration, though don’t expect much by the way of rear headroom. Mercedes-Benz proposes a maximum rear passenger height of just 1.5m.
The vehicle’s 'M177' engine is a wet sump version of the previous AMG GT R's 'M178' 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol, capable of producing 430kW in the latest guise. Torque is increased over the old GT, with the new model producing 100Nm more at 800Nm. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard.
The all-wheel drive platform makes it a pure-bred performer, with the AMG GT63 recording 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds, with a top-speed of 315km/h, should you want to unleash it on the track.
Drivers have six choices of drive programs – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Race.
Overseas, the new AMG GT is also available with a turbo-petrol four-cylinder for the first time in GT43 guise, as well as a de-tuned GT55 version. Australia only gets the full-fat GT63 V8.
Design-wise, the combination of a longer wheelbase, short overhangs and a steeply raked windscreen create a more imposing appearance. This is enhanced by the vehicle’s menacing AMG-specific front grille and 'power domes' on the vehicle’s bonnet.
At the rear of the Aston Martin D12 rival is the automatically retractable rear-wing that integrates into the boot lid, as well as double twin exhausts.
The sports coupe's interior is sculpted around the 11.9-inch, portrait-oriented multimedia screen in the centre of the cockpit. Premium Nappa leather trims adorn much of the interior, including the sports seats with integrated headrests.
The AMG Performance steering wheel boasts a double-spoke design, with a flattened bottom and Nappa leather trim.
As standard, the AMG GT63 gets a long list of features and equipment. This includes 21-inch AMG 10 twin-spoke forged wheels and black-painted AMG brake callipers, an 11-speaker Burmester surround sound system, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, wireless charging, ambient lighting with 64 colours and 10 colour schemes, AMG aluminium trim, hand-stitched microfibre roof-lining, front seat massaging functions and a fixed panoramic sunroof with a mechanical blind.
Optional packages include the AMG Night Package, which adds gloss black interior and exterior features for $9,900 (MRLP), the AMG Carbon Fibre Package, which does much of the same with carbon fibre for $12,900 (MRLP), and the AMG Performance Seat Package for $2490 (MRLP).
You can further customise the AMG GT63 through a range of six leather upholstery colours, 12 exterior paint finishes, and six alloy wheel designs.
The 2025 AMG GT63 4MATIC+ two-door Coupé is available for order from Mercedes-Benz dealers from today, August 14.
