Ferrari Board announce intention to pull out of F1

The Ferrari Board confirmed yesterday afternoon (overnight our time) that if the FIA and Max Mosley do not change their plans for the F1 budget cap they will not enter the championship next year.

As we tipped in a previous Ferrari story, Ferrari now joins Toyota, Red Bull and Toro Rosso as teams who have confirmed their intention to pull out of the F1 championship if the rules are not changed. The primary concern is that F1 would effectively become a two-tier system with those teams who opt for the budget cap given virtually free reign on development while those who do not have to abide by restrictions including a lower rev limit.

Many teams are lining up to join the championship, including the possibility of Lola, Penske and a number of American teams. However F1 without Ferrari will undoubtable be a second rate championship.

The FIA GT and LeMans series are looking good for next year.
