Australians are about to see a multitude of new Volkswagen models arrive here during the next 12 months.

From the all-electric ID.4 and ID.5 SUVs to the I.D. Buzz retro Kombi EV van to the next-gen Tiguan and Multivan and even the new Golf.

We’ve put together a calendar of what’s to come from Volkswagen to keep you in the know.

When: December, 2024

What: ID.4 and ID.5 - the first of Volkswagen’s electric cars for Australia and rivals to the Tesla Model Y both in size and price. These are the same SUV underneath with the ID.4 having a traditional shape while the ID.5 has coupe styling.

Price: Yet to be announced but expect the ID.4 to start from $65,000 while the ID.5 might ask a smidge more for the entry grade.

Volkswagen ID.Buzz
Volkswagen ID.Buzz

When: December, 2024

What: ID.Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo - Volkswagen's Kombi inspired electric vans will touch down before the end of the year in both people mover and cargo mover forms. Volkswagen says the Buzz will be available in two-, three-, five- and seven-seater formats.

Price: The ID.Buzz won’t be dirt cheap - you’ll be looking at an entry price of about $100K. 

Volkswagen Multivan
Volkswagen Multivan

When: Quarter 1, 2025

What: Next-gen Multivan - this will be the all new seventh generation of Volkswagen's diesel-powered people mover van and will be sold alongside the electric ID. Buzz.

Price: Expect the entry grade Multivan to start at about $70K and stretch past $100K for the all-wheel drive variants in the top spec.  

Volkswagen Golf
Volkswagen Golf

When: Quarter 2, 2025

What: Golf and Golf GTI Mark 8.5 - the iconic hatch is getting an update and the hotter GTI version will be getting a power bump from 180kW to 195kW.

Price: Yet to be confirmed but the entry grade Golf will cost about $40K, while the GTI will nudge $60K.

Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen Tiguan

When: Quarter 2, 2025

What: New-gen Tiguan - the third generation of VW's medium-sized SUV will arrive with three engine variants including a 195kW R-Line version.

Price: Hasn't been announced yet but you can expect the entry grade 110TSI to start at about $45K.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX
Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX

When: Quarter 2, 2025

What: ID.Buzz GTX - the all-wheel drive high-performance version of the electric ID.Buzz will have 250kW and 560Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 6.5 seconds.

Price: Yet to be announced but in the United Kingdom the ID.Buzz GTX lists for about A$120,000.

Volkswagen Transporter
Volkswagen Transporter

When: Quarter 3, 2025

What: New-gen Transporter - the cargo version of the Multivan the Transporter will arrive with in diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains. 

Price:  Not announced yet, but the current range starts at $45,890.

Volkswagen ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX
Volkswagen ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX

When: Quarter 3, 2025 (estimated)

What: ID4 GTX and ID5 GTX - the performance versions of the ID.4 and ID.5 will land in Australia in 2025 with dual motors making a combined 250kW and 679Nm for a 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds. 

Price: Not announced yet but in the UK the ID4 GTX has a list price of about A$100K.

Laura Berry is a best-selling Australian author and journalist who has been reviewing cars for almost 20 years.  Much more of a Hot Wheels girl than a Matchbox one, she grew up in a family that would spend every Friday night sitting on a hill at the Speedway watching Sprintcars slide in the mud. But, mainly cars.   A wife and parent, her current daily driver is a chopped 1951 Ford Tudor with a V8.
