Another Chinese ute has arrived to put pressure on the Australian dual-cab ute establishment with a low price and plenty of gear.
Foton has just revealed Australia prices and specifications for its new Tunland ute range.
The range kicks off at a super sharp $39,990 (before on-road costs) for the base Tunland V7 two-wheel drive and rises to $49,990 for the fully-loaded Tunland V9 S four-wheel drive.Â

The car brands that'll change Australia's ute market forever: BYD, Chery, JAC, Foton, GWM and LDV to put the wind up the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux | Opinion
That entry-point is similar to the petrol-powered Toyota HiLux Workmate two-wheel drive, but it is about $10,000 cheaper than the most affordable two-wheel drive HiLux and Ranger with diesel grunt.
The price gap gets even wider at the top end of the range, where the Tunland is more than $20,000 cheaper than its more established rivals.
Only the GWM Cannon can match the Tunland on price.
All models are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with 48V mild-hybrid assistance that makes 120kW and 450kW.
Those numbers are down on the competition but all Tunlands can tow 3500kg and have a payload of between 995kg and 1089kg, depending on the variant.
All variants have 240mm of ground clearance and 28 and 26 degree approach and departure angles, respectively. Wading depth is 700mm.
The range kicks off with the tradie- and fleet-focused Tunland V7. It is available with two- and four-wheel drive and both have a payload over 1000kg and rear leaf suspension.
There is a wide array of active safety tech, a 14.6-inch touchscreen multimedia screen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Manually adjustable seats are joined by a four-speaker stereo, manually-folding side mirrors, air conditioning and spray-in tub liner.
Four-wheel drive examples gain part-time 4WD with high and low gearing, rear differential lock, all-terrain tyres, as well as 'Sand', 'Snow' and 'Mud' drive modes.
The V9 is more lifestyle-focused with a better cabin fit-out and a more refined drive, according to Foton.
The Tunland V9 is available in L and S grades, and both are four-wheel drive only.
The L comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, power folding side mirrors, sports bar and lockable tray, vehicle to load 220V/300W Power Outlet and more advanced multilink suspension.
Inside there is a wireless device charger, six-speaker stereo, heated front seats that are power adjustable and an anti-dazzle rear-view mirror.
The range-topping Tunland V9 S adds a front locking diff, roof rails, and position memory mirrors.
Inside the S is boosted by a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and heated rear outboard seats, rear privacy glass, four auto windows and a rear seat LED reading light.
It also adds driver distraction and fatigue warning, which has proved to be a very annoying feature in other vehicles tested by CarsGuide.
