LDV has launched a new version of its affordable T60 dual-cab ute, bringing significant updates to its array of safety equipment and interior features.

Dubbed the T60 Max Plus, the new variant sits atop the T60 range and brings a new dashboard design featuring dual 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and multimedia display as well as a lockable tailgate, heated power folding side mirrors, electric park brake, and multi-link rear suspension.

This is the first T60 to feature auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on versions equipped with an automatic transmission.

The T60 Max Plus continues to use the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel engine as before, producing 160kW/500Nm, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It also features a rear differential lock.

LDV says the new multi-link rear suspension offered in the Max Plus grade offers a better ride compared to the leaf-sprung versions, as well as improved ground clearance and angles for better off-road performance.

Design changes to the new dash include a column-mounted shifter allowing for a raised console and wireless charging pad, a new digital 2WD/4WD selector, additional USB ports, and the brand says the Max Plus grade also scores additional sound proofing material for “improved cabin ambiance.” When it comes to the exterior, the MAx Plus also gets gloss highlight trims, door mirror covers, side trims, and a new rear bumper.

Payload for the new grade is 840kg for the manual, 830kg for the auto, and the Mega Tub version gets an 800kg capacity. Braked towing capacity remains at 3000kg.

With the addition of the Plus grade, the T60 Max range now consists of the Pro, Luxe, Mega Tub, Plus and Mega Tub Plus. The Max and Max Plus will continue to be sold alongside the superseded version (the regular T60 range) and its EV 2WD spin-off.

The T60 range has taken something of a battering thus far in 2024, down 26 per cent year-on-year. While 4x4 versions remain ahead of the ageing Nissan Navara and SsangYong Musso, it is facing increased competition from the new-generation Mitsubishi Triton, as well as GWM’s Cannon and incoming Cannon Alpha utes.

LDV will be placing its future hopes on its upcoming next-generation EV-first dual-cab, code-named 'GST' which the brand says could be here before the end of 2024.
