If this leaked image is anything to go by, BMW is looking to dial up the aggression of the seventh-generation 3 Series mid-size sedan with its upcoming facelift.
Published on Instagram account wilcoblok, the leaked image appears to show the current 3 Series’ midlife facelift, which is expected to be revealed sometime next year, for a 2023 model year (MY23).
While the 3 Series variant in question is missing its grille insert, BMW has seemingly resisted the temptation to enlarge its signature kidney design, which would’ve followed the lead of the divisive 4 Series.

BMW has also added to the 3 Series’ universal appeal by redesigned its LED headlights, with the new units forgoing the ‘claw effect’ of their predecessors, making for a much cleaner look.
Lower down, the 3 Series example shown looks to be fitted with BMW’s M Sport package, which bundles in a body kit, among other upgrades. Its fresh bumper is noticeably more aggressive than its forebear.
Of note, the pictured 3 Series is also equipped with parts from BMW’s M Performance catalogue, include specific side mirrors with carbon-fibre caps, ‘M Performance’ side decals and a carbon-fibre lip spoiler.
While no images of the 3 Series’ interior have been leaked yet, it is expected to be headlined by the all-electric i4 mid-size sedan and iX large SUV’s 14.9-inch central touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Such a set-up would introduce BMW’s new iDrive8 multimedia system to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Lexus IS, Audi A4, Alfa Romeo Giulia and Genesis G70 rival, with the two displays housed under a single curved glass panel. Stay tuned.
