2022 Peugeot Partner, Expert and Boxer price and features: France's updated vans take aim at new Volkswagen Caddy, Transporter and Crafter

The Partner is Peugeot Australia’s smallest van.

Peugeot Australia has updated its light commercial vehicle (LCV) range for MY22, with the upgraded Partner, Expert and Boxer vans due in showrooms in the first quarter of this year.

The big news is four new grades have been introduced across the French brand’s LCV line-up, with the City positioned as the budget workhorse, while the Pro targets owner-operators and owner-drivers that need a ‘fit for purpose’ van.

Then there’s the Premium, which has higher equipment levels to appeal to owner-drivers, small-to-medium businesses and tool-of-trade buyers that are after a more car-like van.

Finally, the Sport is a limited edition that’s exclusive to the Expert. According to Peugeot Australia, it “is made for owner-drivers who want their businesses to stand out”.

Since the MY22 LCV range was announced early last October, pricing has gone up across the board due to an increase in production costs. That said, Peugeot Australia will honour the original cost for orders placed in 2021.

But to take a closer look at what you get from the Volkswagen Caddy, Transporter and Crafter rivals individually, we’ll cover them in three different sections. Read on.

Peugeot Partner

The Partner small van is available in the City, Pro and Premium grades, as well as Short and Long body-styles (see table below for pricing), which have payloads of 629-660kg and 898-1000kg, and braked towing capacities of 900-1300kg and 950kg respectively.

The City Short comes with an 81kW/205Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine (Euro6) and a six-speed manual as standard, although it can be optioned with the 96kW/230Nm tune and eight-speed automatic that is fitted to all other Partner variants.

Standard equipment in the City includes a passenger-side sliding door (Short) or dual sliding doors (Long), 180-degree rear barn doors, two seats, a 5.0-inch monochrome multimedia system, a glazed bulkhead, six airbags (dual front, side and curtain), a reversing camera and rear parking sensors.

The Pro adds dusk-sensing lights, rain-sensing wipers, three seats, a flip-down table, an electric park brake, 8.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, climate control, under-seat storage, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and speed sign recognition.

Meanwhile, the Premium also gets body-colour exterior trim, 16-inch alloy wheels, power-folding side mirrors, keyless entry, push-button start and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.

Peugeot Expert

The Expert mid-size van is offered in the City, Pro, Premium and Sport grades, as well as Short and Long body-styles (see table below for pricing), which have payloads of 1000-1400kg and 1350kg, and braked towing capacities of 2100kg and 1800-2500kg respectively.

A 110kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine (Euro5) powers the City, Pro and Premium, with the former coming with a six-speed manual as standard, although its optional eight-speed automatic is fitted to all other Expert variants, including the Sport which separates itself from the pack with a 130kW/400Nm unit (Euro6).

Standard equipment in the City (Short only) includes 16-inch steel wheels, dual sliding doors, 180-degree rear barn doors, three seats, a glazed bulkhead, dual front airbags, cruise control and a reversing camera.

The Pro adds dusk-sensing lights, rain-sensing wipers, a 7.0-inch touchscreen multimedia, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors.

Meanwhile, the Premium also gets body-colour exterior trim, LED daytime running lights and foglights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a flip-down table and underseat storage.

The Sport (Short only) steps up with unique decals, Xenon headlights, black 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, paddle-shifters, a head-up display, climate control and front parking sensors.

Of note, the Sport is only member of the Expert range to get dual side airbags and adaptive cruise control, as no other variant has access to the key safety features for MY22 due to the ongoing global semiconductor shortage.
