2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross price and features: Petrol Mazda CX-30, Subaru XV, Kia Seltos, Nissan Qashqai and Suzuki Vitara rival now costs more

The Eclipse Cross was significantly facelifted last December.

For MY22, Mitsubishi Australia has increased the pricing of petrol variants of its segment-straddling small SUV, the Eclipse Cross.

Specifically, the internal-combustion small SUV’s entry-level ES and flagship XLS Plus and Exceed grades are now $700 dearer, while the mid-range LS is up $400, and the next-up XLS and Aspire have become $750 more expensive.

As a result, the Eclipse Cross’ petrol line-up now starts from $30,990 plus on-road costs for the ES FWD and reaches $41,490 for the Exceed AWD (see full pricing table below).

Speaking to CarsGuide, a Mitsubishi Australia spokesperson confirmed no changes have been made to the Mazda CX-30, Subaru XV, Kia Seltos, Nissan Qashqai and Suzuki Vitara rival’s standard equipment, with “the price adjustment … consistent with external factors”.

It’s worth noting the small SUV’s recently launched PHEV (plug-in hybrid) powertrain option hasn’t been affected by cost changes, with it still priced from $46,490 for the ES AWD to $53,990 for the Exceed AWD.

For reference, the petrol Eclipse Cross is motivated by a 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

Comparatively, the PHEV pairs a 94kW/199Nm 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder unit (running on the Atkinson cycle) with 60kW/137Nm front and 70kW/195Nm rear electric motors for AWD.

With a 13.8kWh battery fitted onboard, the Eclipse Cross PHEV has an electric-only range of 55km (ADR 81/02), with it not only able to charge while on the move via regenerative braking in any drive mode, but also by way of the petrol engine (Series Hybrid Mode).

An AC charger with a Type 2 plug can fully replenished the battery’s capacity in as little as 3.5 hours, while a DC fast charger with a CHAdeMO plug can take it from zero to 80 per cent in 25 minutes.
