2022 MG ZS and ZST price and features: Next cost increases confirmed for best-selling Mitsubishi ASX, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona and Subaru XV rivals

The ZST has copped another price rise.

As promised, MG Australia has confirmed increased pricing for most variants of the ZS and ZST small SUVs for MY22, with affected new stock due from April.

On February 1, MG Australia gave leftover MY21 examples of the entry-level ZS Excite, mid-range ZST Vibe and ZST Excite, and flagship ZST Excite $500 price rises.

Those versions will get the same cost adjustment in two months, when the ZS Excite, ZST Vibe, ZST Excite and ZST Excite will move to $22,990, $27,990, $30,990 and $33,990 drive-away, respectively.

Once again, the entry-level ZST Core and flagship ZS EV will be unaffected, with their pricing to remain at $25,990 and $44,990 drive-away, respectively.

Earlier this month, an MG Australia spokesperson explained the prices rises were coming “in the face of unprecedented cost increases in raw materials and transport logistics in 2021”.

As such, no changes have been made to the best-selling Mitsubishi ASX, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona and Subaru XV rivals’ standard specification.

For reference, the ZS Excite is motivated by an 84kW/150Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which is mated to a four-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The ZST range, meanwhile, uses a 115kW/230Nm 1.3-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine and a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

And the ZS EV goes it alone with a 105kW/353Nm front-mounted electric motor and a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery, with the latter delivering a claimed 263km of driving range.

That said, a facelifted ZS EV with two new zero-emissions powertrain options is due in the second half of this year. Stay tuned for the release of its pricing and specifications details.
