2022 Kia Sportage price and features: Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Subaru Forester and Mitsubishi Outlander rival's RRP keeps rising

For the fifth time in about 15 months, the fourth-generation Sportage mid-size SUV’s Recommended Retail Price (RRP) has been increased by Kia Australia – but there is good news for buyers.

Firstly, though, each Sportage variant’s RRP has become $1000 dearer, following the $500, $300, $300 and $200 jumps reported in April 2021, November 2020, July 2020 and May 2020 respectively.

As a result, the mid-size SUV’s range now kicks off from $30,490 plus on-road costs for the S 2.0-litre petrol FWD and reaches $49,990 for the GT-Line 2.0-litre diesel AWD (see full pricing table below).

Speaking to CarsGuide, a Kia Australia spokesperson confirmed no changes have been made to the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Subaru Forester and Mitsubishi Outlander rival’s standard specification.

That said, they added that the Sportage’s driveaway pricing hasn’t changed this time around, meaning buyers will still pay the same amount they did previously.

For reference, the mid-size SUV’s driveaway pricing starts from $31,290 for the S 2.0-litre petrol FWD and tops out at $51,790 for the GT-Line 2.0-litre diesel AWD (see full pricing table below).

As before, the Sportage is offered in four grades: entry-level S, mid-range SX and SX+, and flagship GT-Line.

A 114kW/192Nm 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine is available in the S, SX and SX+, with the former two offered with a six-speed manual or torque-converter automatic, while the latter only comes with two pedals. Either way, front-wheel drive is standard.

Meanwhile, the GT-Line is fitted with a 135kW/237Nm 2.4-litre unit with the six-speed torque-converter automatic and all-wheel drive.

A 136kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine is also available in all four grades. However, it only comes with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic and all-wheel drive.
