2022 Ford Focus ST runs hot! Price and features confirmed for facelifted Hyundai i30 N, Volkswagen Golf GTI, Renault Megane RS and Honda Civic Type R rival

The Focus ST has a new front fascia for 2022 and beyond.

Ford Australia has announced a higher starting price and a new flagship grade for the Focus ST hot hatch from 2022, with the recently revealed facelifted version due in the second quarter with a longer list of standard equipment.

As reported, the Focus ST gets a new front fascia and 10-spoke alloy wheels as part of the update, while a 13.2-inch central touchscreen has been introduced alongside Ford’s new Sync4 multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Safety-wise, the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) functionality has extended to intersection assist, while the blind-spot monitoring system is now of the active variety.

As before, the Focus ST is powered by a 206kW/420Nm 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, which sends drive to the front wheels like the rivalling Hyundai i30 N, Volkswagen Golf GTI, Renault Megane RS and Honda Civic Type R. An eLSD is fitted.

The carryover entry-level ‘ST’ grade is available with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed torque-converter automatic for $47,490 plus on-road costs (+$2600), while the fresh ‘ST X’ range-topper only comes with the latter, at $51,990.

Other standard equipment in the ‘ST’ includes LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a wireless smartphone charger and 14-way power-adjustable Ford Performance front seats with heating.

The ‘ST X’ adds adaptive sports suspension, Dynamic Pixel LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display and high-beam assist.

As reported, Ford Australia's Focus line-up has been reduced to the ST models, with the ST-Line and Active having been discontinued locally with the facelift.
