2021 Lexus RX pricing and specs detailed: BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE rival goes up in cost

The RX has been dealt a round of price rises.

Lexus Australia has adjusted the pricing of its large SUV, the RX, for second time in two months.

The RX’s price rises range from $1500 to $2630, depending on the variant, meaning its line-up now stretches from $73,136 to $113,088 plus on-road costs (see full pricing table below).

For reference, the RX’s pricing was decreased by $364 to $612 earlier this year due to the increased luxury car tax (LCT) thresholds introduced on July 1, the start of the 2020/2021 financial year.

As before, the RX is available in three powertrains (RX300, RX350 and RX450h) and three grades (entry-level Luxury, mid-range F Sport and flagship Sports Luxury). It also comes with the choice of five or seven seats, with the latter denoted by an ‘L’.

The only grade to have its standard equipment correspondingly increased is the Sports Luxury, which now comes with a heated steering wheel.

Speaking to CarsGuide, a Lexus Australia spokesperson confirmed the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE rival’s price increases were otherwise prompted by exchange-rate pressures.

RX300 variants are powered by a 175kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission that sends drive to the front wheels.

Meanwhile, RX350 variants are motivated by a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 petrol engine that produces 221kW/370Nm (five seats) or 216kW/358Nm (seven seats). It’s matched to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic and a front-biased all-wheel-drive system.

RX450h variants have a ‘self-charging’ hybrid powertrain that combines a 193kW version of the RX350 engine with a 123kW electric motor for a system power output of 230kW. This set-up features an electronic continuously variable automatic (e-CVT) and Lexus’ E-Four AWD.
