2021 Land Rover Defender pricing and specs detailed: Powerful supercharged V8 added to new 4x4 as part of update

The Defender P525 is powered by a 386kW/625Nm 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine.

Land Rover Australia has added a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine option, dubbed P525, to the second-generation Defender large SUV as part of its MY22 update.

The 386kW/625Nm unit is available in the Defender’s 90 three-door and 110 five-door body-styles, with it priced from $200,450 and $205,500 plus on-road costs respectively.

Mated to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, the P525 can sprint from a standstill to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds while on the way to its top speed of 240km/h.

To further stand out from the Defender crowd, the P525 also gets a Dynamic drive mode, a rear limited-slip differential, stiffer spring and damper rates, larger anti-roll bars, Satin Dark Grey 22-inch alloy wheels, front Xenon Blue brake callipers and quad exhaust tailpipes.

Inside, the P525 steps up with an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel with Satin Chrome paddle-shifters, and Ebony Windsor leather upholstery with Miko Suedecloth and Robustec accents.

Also new to the Defender range for MY22 is the XS Edition grade, which replaces the First Edition and is positioned above the P400 SE variants, which have a 294kW/550Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine. It’s available in 90 ($110,640) and 110 ($113,580) forms.

For the extra money, the XS Edition adds Matrix LED headlights, body-colour cladding and wheelarches, Satin Grey 20-inch alloy wheels, a 10-speaker Meridian sound system, a digital rearview mirror, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heating and Grained leather upholstery.

Also for MY22, a larger, 11.4-inch touchscreen Pivi Pro multimedia system has become an option alongside three exterior design packages: Bright Pack, Extended Bright Pack and Extended Black Pack.

As part of the MY22 changes, all but one of the carryover Defender variants have increased in price, with the rises ranging from $570 to $7600 (see full pricing table below).
