2014 BMW M3 and M4 teased | video

After splitting their house into separate line-ups for the sedans and two-doors, BMW is getting ready to reveal the new M3 sedan and the M4 coupe (formerly the M3 coupe). The two cars are scheduled to be officially unveiled at the Detroit motor show in January, but are expected to be revealed in images as early as the end of this week.

In the lead-up, BMW has released a video showing the bare outlines of the two cars, although it shouldn't be difficult to fill in the gaps, based on what we've previously seen of their development.

The M4 was unveiled in concept form at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August, and did another turn at Frankfurt motor show in September, and we're not expecting a huge departure from the show car's aggressive take on the 4 Series design.

Another video earlier this year gave us the sound of the new engine, which is reportedly a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder developing 316kW of power and more than 500Nm of torque -- mated to the choice of a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sending drive to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential.
