Toyota RAV4 2003: Why isn't my gearbox engaging?

Asked by Mark

The gearbox in my 2003 Toyota RAV4 will not engage at all. Do you think I need a new gearbox, or could it be the ECU/ECM chip as I heard they have problems with them?

It could be the ECU, but I would think it’s more likely at that age that the transmission needs a rebuild. Have a transmission mechanic assess it for you.
